What I’ll take from Prague: A scar on my chin, a greater appreciation for KFC, some serious beer snobbery, a quieter speaking voice in public (get excited!), a new best friend, an understanding of American stereotypes, and a big bottle of becherovka
What I won’t miss about Prague: No free tap water, unfriendly faces, always being classified as an outsider
What I will miss about...
decreation asked: Hey! I found your blog through another Prague blog. I was just wondering which program you went to Prague with. I studied abroad in Prague in 2010 through USAC so naturally, I'm just curious! Enjoy it while it lasts darling! My friends and I miss it literally every day since we left!
Prague never lets you go… this dear little mother has sharp claws.

romanticnostalgic asked: Hey, thank you so much! I responded to your message on my personal tumblr, but wanted I to ask you more about Prague and wasn't positive you would see it, so I thought I would ask you here.
How much longer will you be there for? What so far has been your favorite part about the city?

Where Are All The Men in Study Abroad? →
Nearly every one I know complains (or raves) about the fact that their study abroad programs are overwhelming populated by female students. This article provides some interesting insight into why this may be.

Stockholm, Sweden
Growing up with two working parents, my brother and I were always watched after by AuPairs. We had AuPairs from all over Europe, but tended towards Scandinavians. They became part of our family, and we keep in touch with some of them. Two that I was particularly close with live in Stockholm, and have been suggesting since they were my nannies (when I was 7 and 10) that I come visit. So I...

One of my favorite passages, from my favorite book, The Phantom Tollbooth:
“In a few more steps the forest opened before them, and off to the left a magnificant metropolis appeared. The rooftops shone like mirrors, the walls glisted with thousands of precious stones, and the broad avenues were paved in silver.
‘Is that it?’ shouted Milo, running toward the shining streets. ...

– A beautiful description from the exhibit in the Magdeburg Barracks in Terezin. As a theatre-lover, I found this particularly inspiring and moving.

Weekend Update
I’m Ally Marcus, and here are this week’s top stories:
Being a Jewish History scholar: On Monday, Helga Weissova-Hoskova, a Holocaust survivor, spoke to my Jewish History class. She was 12 when she was deported to Terezin, where she was imprisoned for 3 years before being deported to Auschwitz. During her time in Terezin, her father told her to “draw what you see,” and...

A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic
– Joseph Stalin
Finally went to the Museum of Communism yesterday. It’s a very small museum, and pretty hard to find - located below a flashy casino. It shows the timeline of Communist rule, while focusing on what daily life was like from residents of the Czech Republic. Though it was...

Finishing off my third week abroad, I think it’s time I allowed myself a self-reflective post. Here goes nothing:
One of my favorite TV show quotes goes something like this: “It’s our hobby. Some people do arts and crafts, we judge.” -Stanford, Sex & the City
And it’s true. Though I consider myself a very open-minded person, I (along with most of my friends)...

mishagoestoleysinforayear-deact asked: awww yeah we have a word for it!
Burákové máslo or Arašídové máslo.
we rarely ever eat it though, but my grandma loves it, she says some american soldiers gave her some when she was younger when The Czech Republic was freed after WW2.
and I love it too, of course. But I'm not that "Czech".. :)

You can find it at Tesco or a little market called Albert! It's a bit pricey but when you need your fix, you need your fix. Get some nutella and show your Czech friends or host family the best sandwich they've ever eaten.
